UAE to Allow Foreigners to Obtain Citizenship, Defining Several Categories of Citizens
The authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have officially allowed foreigners to acquire citizenship for the first time. They have made alterations to the law that define several categories of citizens. This was reported by the WAM news agency.
“The new decree is aimed at attracting talented individuals who will contribute to our development,” stated UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
According to preliminary data, investors, innovators, doctors, scientists, and artists, as well as their families, will be eligible to apply for citizenship. However, each category has its specific requirements. For example, investors must own real estate in the UAE or possess licenses approved by the country's Ministry of Economy. Doctors and engineers are required to work in unique scientific fields needed by the state and must have at least 10 years of professional experience. Meanwhile, scientists must be actively involved in research activities and possess prestigious awards.
Applications will be reviewed by local executive authority offices and the government. Previously, talented individuals visiting the country lived on visas.
The UAE offers the wealthiest social security program for its citizens, guaranteeing not only employment but also housing and a comfortable life.
