ECHR Grants Armenia's Applications for Urgent Measures for 22 Armenian Prisoners
In a significant development regarding the protection of the rights of Armenian prisoners, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has granted Armenia's applications to implement urgent measures for an additional 22 individuals. The ECHR has demanded documented information from the Azerbaijani government regarding the circumstances of their detention, including their whereabouts, conditions of confinement, and access to medical care. Specific deadlines have been set for the provision of this information, with dates ranging from December 7 to December 14, 2020.
In prior cases, the Azerbaijani government has provided formal, evasive, and incomplete responses to the ECHR's inquiries, failing to clarify the conditions under which the Armenian prisoners are held and not presenting any evidence of medical examinations or potential treatment.
