Tunyan Explains Why the Import Ban on Turkish Products is for 6 Months
Many are asking why the ban on the import of Turkish origin products is temporary for 6 months, wrote Babken Tunyan, the chairman of the Economic Affairs Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia and a deputy from the ‘My Step’ faction. He clarified: “I have responded in the comments of my previous post, but let me write this as well.
Dear friends, Armenia is a member of the EAEU. According to Article 47 of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union dated May 29, 2014, EAEU member states may unilaterally apply non-tariff regulatory measures in trade with third countries in accordance with the procedure established by Annex 7 of the Treaty. At the same time, according to point 50 of section X titled ‘Unilateral Application of Measures’ of the Protocol on non-tariff regulations approved by Annex 7, in exceptional cases, member states may unilaterally establish TEMPORARY measures in trade with third countries based on the grounds provided in sections VII and VIII of the Protocol that differ from those mentioned in sections III and IV of the Protocol.
According to point 54 of the Protocol, the temporary measure is effective from the day it is established, but for no longer than 6 months. An important addition: NOTHING PREVENTS US from extending the ban for another 6 months after the 6-month period, and so on.”
