Facebook Suspends Over 1000 Accounts and Nearly 8000 Pages Registered in Azerbaijan
Facebook has removed over 1000 accounts and nearly 8000 pages registered in Azerbaijan from its platform. This was reported by Buzzfeed News.
These accounts and pages were linked to the ruling "New Azerbaijan" party and were used against opposition figures and the media. They were employed to leave comments in support of the ruling party and to undermine opposition and independent media.
The source reports that these revelations came after a year-long investigation into the manipulations carried out by the country's authorities, led by former social media expert Sophie Zhang, who was subsequently let go from her position.
