Yerevan's Pedestrian Crossings Lighting Program Launched, Approximately 100 Crossings to be Illuminated

To ensure the safe movement of pedestrians and drivers, the municipality has initiated a lighting program for approximately 100 pedestrian crossings. This was reported by the Yerevan City Hall, which noted that during a recent working meeting, Mayor Hayk Marutyan was informed that the program mainly includes those areas where pedestrian accidents have been frequently recorded in recent years.

The list of streets to be illuminated with energy-saving lights is being expanded. The second phase of the program is underway in collaboration with the UN Development Program's Armenian office, which involves the installation of 674 LED lights. This year, the Davtashen and Nubarashen administrative districts, as well as the sections of Lenin Street, Shiraz Street, Hasratyan Street, Hakob Hakobyan Street, and the area from the beginning of the Kiev Bridge to the vicinity of the Barekamutyun Metro Station, have already been fully illuminated with energy-efficient LED lights.

The artistic lighting of statues in Yerevan is also being modernized, with sodium lights being replaced by LED lighting.

Additionally, Mayor Marutyan has instructed to intensify inspections and to ensure that construction sites are organized and sanitary norms are upheld. In the capital, it is often possible to encounter trucks carrying bulk construction materials and dirty tires exiting construction sites. In this regard, the Road Police is expected to take consistent action to record violations and prevent incidents.

To eliminate the consequences of the building collapse at 1 Yan Rynisi Street, a competition for construction works will be announced soon. It has been reported that the dismantling of the 5th entrance, the construction of a retaining wall, and the complete renovation of the building's roof are planned. According to a government decision, certificate of apartment purchase will be provided to the owners of 12 apartments. For financing purposes, 182 million drams will be allocated from the reserve fund to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

To effectively combat outdoor illegal trade in the capital, the city authorities have initiated several legislative changes. Specifically, amendments are planned to the Code of Administrative Offenses. The proposed law allows for items sold illegally in unauthorized places to be seized and returned only after the fine is paid. This also provides an opportunity for effective administrative procedures.

Mayor Hayk Marutyan has instructed to strengthen cooperation with the National Assembly to implement the legislative initiatives.

The problem of littering in unauthorized places exists in all administrative districts of Yerevan. To prevent such incidents, consistent monitoring has been ordered, utilizing administrative leverage.

Work is currently underway on the design competition for the new metro station in Ajapnyak. The mayor has been informed that following the design competition, the preparations for the construction work will soon begin.
