Fact: The Work of the Constitutional Reform Commission is Delayed - It is Coordinated
The newspaper 'Fact' reports: 'Recently, there has been much discussion about the ongoing events in the judicial system of Armenia, as well as about the constitutional amendments. These are processes that, to put it mildly, are not universally accepted by various political forces.
Regarding the activities of the Constitutional Reform Commission, there is hardly a topic for discussion, as the main concepts that will be included in the amendments have not actually been presented. Perhaps the only exception is the idea of creating a Supreme Court, which faced sharp opposition from a majority of the legal community.
It was originally planned that the commission would present a preliminary version of the amended Constitution in September 2020, with a preliminary concept available by the end of October. After some time, it became known that the final concept of the Constitution would be ready by the end of the year, with a draft of the constitutional amendments (which some classify as a de facto new draft Constitution) to be presented for public discussion in the spring of 2021, followed by submission to the parliament.
However, according to the information from 'Fact', the work of the commission is not only slowing down, but it is almost impossible to present it within the planned deadlines. According to our source, this is a specially coordinated arrangement with the ruling elite, so that the commission's work is prolonged as much as possible, and the draft is presented for public discussion as late as possible.'
