Citizens Seeking to Travel to Russia Are on Hunger Strike in Front of the Government
Citizens seeking to travel to Russia are staging a hunger strike in front of the government building. They are holding banners that read "Hunger Strike, We Are Waiting for a Positive Response from the Prime Minister," with one demand: for Russia to open its borders so they can return to their families.
It should be noted that for a considerable time, even before the state of emergency was declared, many citizens of Armenia who traveled from Russia to Armenia wish to return. However, they have been here for more than seven months. These citizens regularly hold protests in front of the government and the National Assembly, demanding a resolution to their problem.
It is worth mentioning that Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan has spoken with them, stating that Armenia has not closed its borders, but rather it is the Russian side that is responsible for the closure, and negotiations are underway to open them. Nevertheless, these citizens are skeptical and note that no negotiations seem to be taking place, as Russia has opened its borders with many countries, but not with Armenia, despite the fact that Armenia is a member of the EEU.
