US Police Arrest Woman for Sending Deadly Ricin to Trump
US police have arrested a woman suspected of sending a package containing the deadly toxin ricin to President Donald Trump. The arrest took place in Buffalo, New York, near the Canadian border. The woman's name has not been disclosed, according to BBC reports.
She is a Canadian citizen and was apprehended at a border checkpoint while attempting to enter the United States. A firearm was seized from her.
According to the newspaper, in March 2019, the woman was detained in Texas for illegally staying in the US and was subsequently deported to her home country. At that time, she was found to possess a counterfeit driver's license, an expired six-month visa, and a firearm.
The suspicious package was discovered on September 19 while sorting mail addressed to the US president. For security reasons, the procedure is conducted outside the White House grounds.
There is no antidote for ricin. If inhaled or ingested, death can occur within 36 to 72 hours, depending on the dose received. It takes only half a milligram of this substance, about the size of a pinhead, to be lethal to an adult.
