Direct and Public Incitement of Genocide Criminalized by New Law, Says Hovhannisyan
Today, the National Assembly adopted in the second reading and in full the draft law authored by several colleagues from the "My Step" faction and myself on "Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia." This was reported by Mikayel Hayrapetyan, the chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport, on his Facebook page.
"This law criminalizes direct and public incitement to genocide. As a nation that has survived genocide, by criminalizing public and direct incitement to genocide, Armenia will continue its actions aimed at preventing genocides while ensuring the ongoing implementation of the Convention. With the adoption of this law, Armenia fulfills its obligation arising from the Convention in terms of the punishability of acts stipulated in Article 3 and fills the gap that existed in the Armenian Criminal Code," he wrote.
