Lebanon's Central Bank Governor Declares No Plans to Resign Despite Ongoing Speculation

Lebanon's Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh, who has held the position since 1993, has stated he has no intentions of stepping down despite reports regarding his potential resignation amid the country's severe financial crisis, Reuters reports.

In an interview with CNBC, Salameh asserted that he believes the nation has a strategy to emerge from the crisis.

As a cornerstone of Lebanon’s financial system, Salameh faces intense criticism due to the crisis that has paralyzed the country’s banking system and impacted the national currency since October. Many in Lebanon blame him and other representatives of the ruling elite for plunging the nation into economic chaos, which was exacerbated by the catastrophic explosion at the Beirut port.
