Defendant in Alcohol Poisoning Case Detained, Says Lawyer

The court unlawfully and without justification detained Ashot Hovsepyan. This was stated by Ashot Hovsepyan's lawyer, Gor Gevorgyan, in an interview with NEWS.am.

“The judge was unable to rise above public opinion and make a legal decision. The detention was applied without sufficient grounds,” he noted.

Earlier, it was reported that during the period from August 31 to September 5, there were 46 cases of poisoning registered in the country, of which 17 resulted in death. Of these cases, 29 occurred in the Armavir region, resulting in 9 deaths, 15 in Yerevan with 7 fatalities, and 2 in the Kotayk region with 1 death.

Currently, 13 patients are receiving treatment for alcohol poisoning in various medical centers across the country.

A criminal case has been initiated under the third part of Article 279 of the RA Criminal Code (release or sale of products that do not meet safety requirements, as well as performing work or providing services). Three individuals were arrested, one of whom is Ashot Hovsepyan.

It is worth noting that Ashot Hovsepyan currently suffers from pneumonia and severe diabetes, requiring insulin injections several times a day.
