Tonoian Participates in Joint Meeting of Defense Ministers of CSTO Member States
On September 4, Armenian Minister of Defense Davit Tonoian participated in a joint meeting of defense ministers from the CIS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and CSTO member states held in Moscow. In his opening remarks, Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu noted that this meeting format is the first of its kind and expressed confidence that international military cooperation would become more active following this gathering, and the results of the meeting would contribute to deepening the departments' interaction.
Davit Tonoian delivered a brief speech focused on consolidating efforts aimed at preventing threats to international and regional security, the incitement of wars and armed conflicts, as well as further strengthening military cooperation under current conditions. During the meeting, several documents were signed within the frameworks of the CIS and CSTO.
Specialists from the Russian Ministry of Defense presented details about the development and testing of the world’s first registered Russian vaccine against the coronavirus.
The participants also visited the main temple of the Russian Armed Forces near Moscow and the “Road of Memory” museum complex. Davit Tonoian found data regarding his grandfather, Hovhannes Poghos Hakobov, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, through the interactive search system of the “Road of Memory” complex. This museum complex was created to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who participated in the Great Patriotic War and now includes 33 million records and photographs.
