Ashot Hovsepyan, Suspect in Alcohol Poisoning Case, Infected with Coronavirus
The suspect Ashot Hovsepyan in the alcohol poisoning case of residents in Armavir has contracted the coronavirus. His lawyer, Gor Gevorgyan, informed NEWS.am about this.
“At this stage of the criminal case, the deliberation of the detention motion is urgent and immediate. We are dealing with a force majeure situation in this case. I cannot imagine what the procedure will be, because without my client, the motion for detention cannot be examined. There is also no legal basis for an unreasonable delay, because this is a procedural action that requires immediate review,” said lawyer Gevorgyan.
Gevorgyan noted that Ashot Hovsepyan has been transferred to the “Surp Grigor Lusavorich” medical center and is already isolated. The lawyer also mentioned that he is preparing to self-isolate.
It should be noted that the examination of Hovsepyan's detention motion was postponed last night due to his sudden deterioration in health, after which he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
“The sudden deterioration of his health today could also be related to this,” said the lawyer.
Recall that there were reported cases of poisoning in the country between August 31 and September 2, resulting in 38 instances of alcohol poisoning in Armavir, Kotayk, and Yerevan, of which 14 were fatal.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Armavir regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee under part 3 of Article 279 of the RA Criminal Code (release or sale of goods that do not meet safety requirements, performance of works, or provision of services).
