Do Not Take Steps Against Turkey, You Will Be the One to Suffer: Cavusoglu to Greece
The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has responded to Greece's decision to deploy troops on the island of Meis (Kastelorizo), which is part of the administrative unit of Southern Aegean islands. This was reported by Ermenihaber.
Çavuşoğlu noted that this island is located 580 kilometers away from Greek mainland and only 2 kilometers from Turkey's Antalya province. However, according to the Turkish Foreign Minister, Greece exercises control over a water area of 40,000 square kilometers, which he deems unacceptable.
The Turkish official believes this has all been done to corner Turkey from all sides. He stated that the countries along the Eastern Mediterranean should divide their maritime zones through negotiations in a 'fair' manner.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also emphasized that the deployment of troops on those islands is prohibited by the Paris Agreement of 1947, allowing only a limited number of police forces for the purpose of ensuring security.
The Turkish Foreign Minister threatened that if Greece continues to bypass restrictions by deploying large numbers of troops there, the one to suffer will be Greece itself.
