4 Individuals Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Theft

The investigation is underway in the Yerevan Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, focusing on the circumstances surrounding an attempted theft committed by a group.

On August 15, 2020, at 06:45, four individuals were brought to the Mashtots Police Department from Janibekyan Street in Yerevan, where they had attempted to steal a payment terminal.

That same day, the Armenian Police initiated a criminal case under Article 34-177 (attempted theft) of the RA Criminal Code, based on the characteristics specified in points 1, 2, and 3 of part 2. The case was forwarded to the Yerevan Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for further investigation, and an investigative group was established.

As a result of investigative and procedural actions conducted in the criminal case, three of the aforementioned individuals were arrested based on points 1, 2, and 3 of part 2 of Article 34-177, while one was suspected of committing crimes defined by points 1, 2, and 3 of part 2 of Article 34-38-177 of the RA Criminal Code.

Measures are being taken to uncover possible other instances of theft or attempted theft by the group. The preliminary investigation continues.
