Red Kattari Crater Lake May Completely Dry Up: Alarm Raised
Environmentalist Karine Panosyan wrote on her Facebook page: “We encountered this lake while climbing Mount Ajdahak. It is the Red Kattari Crater Lake, a natural monument. You can see the current size of the lake. I have marked the former size of the lake with a white circle. The yellow triangle indicates the pump being used to draw water for domestic purposes.
According to my fellow hikers, members of the 'Democratic Alliance' initiative began addressing this issue as far back as last autumn. You can read more about the material here. However, the problem has not been resolved. As you can see from afar, we can glimpse the direction of the pipe that accompanied us throughout the journey, while the lake's level has significantly decreased.
Thus, the lake may completely dry up. I would like to note that the monuments located within the territory of the Republic of Armenia are under state protection. Link to legislation. I hope that a quick and decisive solution will be found for this problem, and yet another manifestation of human vandalism will be brought to a halt.”
