US Embassies in Armenia and Azerbaijan Issue Joint Statement

The US Embassy in Armenia and the US Embassy in Azerbaijan condemn acts of violence that are inconsistent with the fundamental principles of peaceful gatherings and demonstrations.

This statement was posted on the official Facebook page of the US Embassy in Armenia.

“The United States takes its obligation to protect diplomatic facilities very seriously, and we are working with local law enforcement to ensure that safety. Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful assembly are protected by the US Constitution; however, in the event of violence, a proportional response will be provided by law enforcement. We call on all demonstrators to maintain the peaceful nature of their gatherings and to exercise restraint,” the statement reads.
