Wedding Time, But No Time to Answer: MPs Express Discontent
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: According to information from "Zhoghovurd," yesterday the session of the permanent committee on education, science, culture, youth and sports issues in the National Assembly was intense. We had reported that this discussion was connected to the protests of applicants and their parents who were not admitted to higher education institutions these days.
However, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan, did not attend the discussion. Instead, the head of the ministry’s education department participated in the discussion, to whom the MPs asked various questions. Moreover, the MPs were also surprised that the minister was absent from the discussion and voiced their concerns about this matter.
It is noteworthy that even deputies at the level of the deputy minister participated in the discussion, which the ruling party MPs considered a mistake, even discussing among themselves that Minister Arayik Harutyunyan had time to participate in a wedding ceremony in Tavush and be the godfather but did not have time to answer the questions of the MPs.
We should mention that even heads of other committees participated in yesterday’s discussion, for instance, Babken Tunyan from the Committee on Economic Issues and Narek Zeynalyan from the Committee on Health and Public Affairs. However, a final decision was not made, and the MPs are waiting for clarifications from the minister on how it happened that an applicant who received 18.5 points was not admitted to any university.
More details in today's issue of the newspaper.
