Unified Transport Network Planned for Implementation in Armenia: What Changes to Expect

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" writes: "The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia intends to make changes to the law on 'State Duties.' It turns out that there is a legislative contradiction as the licensing requirement for regular passenger transportation has been removed, but the state duty designated for it has not been eliminated. This, according to the ministry, needs legal regulation.

It is planned to introduce a unified transport network in Armenia by 2021, aiming for a single operator to service the transport networks of each region. This means that inter-regional and intra-regional transport networks in the republic will be serviced by about 10 transport operators.

Currently, there are 141 inter-regional routes operating, serviced by 75 organizations and individual entrepreneurs, as well as 211 intra-regional routes serviced by 50 organizations and individual entrepreneurs. On the other hand, it should be noted that efforts are also being made in Yerevan towards the implementation of a unified transport network, but tangible results have yet to be seen.
