France to Send a New Team of Volunteer Doctors to Armenia in the Coming Days
French President Emmanuel Macron has sent a letter of support to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The letter published on the official page of the Prime Minister states:
“Dear Prime Minister Nikol, I recently learned of your recovery from the coronavirus, and I am pleased that you and your family are healthy. Today, both France and Armenia face significant health, economic, and social challenges. The crisis should not force us to retreat. On the contrary, the pandemic should be a unique opportunity for cooperation in the fight against the virus and its consequences.
In this spirit, I want to assure you of France’s solidarity and willingness to provide specific support to Armenia. Alongside the unprecedented financial aid from the European Union and bilateral support, France stands by your side.
In the coming days, France will send a new team of volunteer doctors to Armenia, which will replace the current team helping their Armenian colleagues in the fight against Covid-19.
This crisis also poses a challenge to the economies of our two countries. Thanks to the development of the French Development Agency (AFD) already operating in Armenia, France is ready to consider providing a state policy loan estimated at 50-80 million euros, which will help cover the additional budgetary financing needs that your country is facing this year. This AFD program, aimed at strengthening the country’s capacities to cope with crises, will be implemented in conjunction with other lending organizations, such as the World Bank. Emphasis can be placed on actions in the health and social protection sectors, as well as actions aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
Hoping that our bonds of solidarity and friendship will emerge strengthened from this experience, please accept, Mr. Prime Minister, my esteemed assurance.”
