Armenian Scientists Create Disinfectant Material Effective Against COVID-19
At the A. B. Nalbandyan Institute of Chemical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, a new generation material named "Bioksil 2" has been developed based on fundamental knowledge. This material can be successfully used for disinfecting areas, surfaces, and objects in the fight against COVID-19.
According to information provided to Armenpress by the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, "Bioksil 2" is a composite, effective disinfectant and detergent material created on the basis of active oxygen, which does not contain chlorine. "A 0.5 percent concentration of pure hydrogen peroxide eliminates the coronavirus. However, our created 'Bioksil 2' contains hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 2 percent, which is five times higher. Additionally, it includes activators of hydrogen peroxide, which increase its effectiveness by dozens of times. 'Bioksil 2' is active against many types of bacteria. Furthermore, it does not stain the environment, is environmentally safe and non-toxic, does not affect human health, does not destroy materials, and has no odor," assured Levon Tavadyan, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, who leads the development and production of "Bioksil 2".
"Bioksil 2" has undergone tests at the Disinfection Center of the Ministry of Health of Armenia and the National Center for Tuberculosis Control, as well as at various food production enterprises. All tests confirmed the high effectiveness of "Bioksil 2", and its technical specifications have been validated by the National Institute of Standards of Armenia.
The production of "Bioksil 2" is organized at a workshop established within the territory of the Institute of Chemical Physics, with a capacity of 2 tons per day. Currently, the main customer for the production of "Bioksil 2" is the presidency of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, which has acquired this disinfectant for the disinfection of the structures within the Academy system. The Academy’s building and all its research organizations are disinfected twice a week with the "Bioksil 2" disinfectant detergent.
As a donation, the Institute of Chemical Physics has provided 1 ton of "Bioksil 2" to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia for targeted use.
