Economic Activity in Armenia Declines: 'Hayots Ashkharh'
The newspaper 'Hayots Ashkharh' reports that the economic activity indicator in Armenia has decreased. The National Statistical Committee of Armenia has recorded concerning statistics in the economic sector. According to official data, Armenia's economic activity index has declined by 1.7 percent during the January-April period of this year compared to the same period last year.
There has also been a downturn in the construction sector, which reported a decrease of 21.9 percent compared to the previous year. Essentially, this downturn can be attributed to the global impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which led to a state of emergency being declared in Armenia, resulting in a ban on any construction activities during that time.
Additionally, it should be noted that retail turnover has decreased by 8.6 percent. This too is a consequence of the state of emergency, as traders in the commerce sector did not operate during the months of March and April, with economic activity only occurring in the food sector.
