Criminal Case Initiated Based on Sasun Mikayelyan's Statement Against Edmond Marukyan's Brother
A criminal case has been initiated based on Sasun Mikayelyan's statement regarding Edmond Marukyan's brother. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
“On May 25, 2020, a decision was made in the Special Investigative Service of Armenia to refuse to initiate a criminal case regarding the report of a crime submitted by Edgar Marukyan to the Prosecutor General, citing the absence of corpus delicti. Following a review of the legality of this decision at the Prosecutor General's Office, it was determined that additional investigative, procedural, and operational-intelligence measures are necessary to provide a comprehensive assessment of the events. Considering that final conclusions can be only drawn through a complete, objective, and thorough investigation, the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the re-investigation has annulled the investigator's decision to refuse criminal proceedings and has initiated a criminal case under Article 137, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia,” the Prosecutor's Office stated.
It should be noted that Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the “Enlightened Armenia” parliamentary faction, had filed a complaint with Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan regarding direct and indirect threats made by Sasun Mikayelyan, a member of the “My Step” faction.
