Immediate Criminal Case Should Be Initiated for Apparent Torture of Detainees in Kajaran Police - Ruben Melikyan
Ruben Melikyan, the president of the NGO "Legal Way," made a statement on his Facebook page regarding the incidents occurring in Kajaran. He wrote on this occasion:
“Regarding the apparent torture of a person detained in Kajaran police, there should not be a mere internal investigation or preparatory work of materials; instead, an immediate criminal case should be initiated as an absolute necessity of the state (although by no means sufficient). Thanks to the persistent efforts of the active public in Armenia, it was possible to fundamentally rid ourselves of the disgraceful practice of beatings in police stations years ago, and now, under the full responsibility of the ruling political force, this disgraceful practice is being resurrected right before our eyes. We will not allow it.”
