Russian Investigative Committee Rules That Khachatryan Sisters' Father’s Murder Was Not Self-Defense

The Russian Investigative Committee has rejected the arguments presented by the Attorney General’s Office and decided that the actions of the Khachatryan sisters, who killed their father, cannot be reclassified as self-defense. This was reported to RIA Novosti by one of the sisters' lawyer, Alexey Lipitser.

“We have been informed about the completion of additional investigative actions. The investigation ignored the Attorney General’s arguments and left the previous qualification as murder by prior agreement, refusing to mitigate or reclassify it as necessary self-defense,” the lawyer stated.

According to him, the defense will now familiarize itself with the materials of the additional investigation, and the investigation intends to submit it to the Attorney General’s Office by the end of the month for the approval of an indictment.

Earlier, the investigation admitted that the father had mocked and raped his daughters, but classified the girls' actions under the most serious charge of murder by prior agreement. The prosecution found the conclusions regarding motives and purposes unproven and referred the case for review.

It is reminded that Angelina, Kristina, and Maria Khachatryan were arrested in July 2018 on charges of murdering their father, Mikhail Khachatryan. The investigation into this case was completed in December of last year. It was found during the investigation that the father had carried out physical, sexual, and psychological abuse against his daughters for years.
