No Reports on the Presence of Armenian Citizens in the Upper Lars Neutral Zone, Says Armenian Embassy in Georgia
The Armenian Embassy in Georgia refutes circulating rumors that some Armenian citizens, after crossing the Russian Federation's border, attempted to enter Georgian territory but were unable to and have been in the Upper Lars neutral zone for a month.
The embassy informs that its diplomats have contacted the leadership of the Upper Lars Georgian checkpoint, who stated that there are currently no citizens waiting in the neutral zone.
“The embassy has not received any reports regarding the presence of Armenian citizens in the Upper Lars neutral zone over the past month. No embassy staff have told any citizen in the neutral zone to register and come by plane, and, ultimately, no embassy representative has been on site (and could not be since the Georgian side does not allow citizens of any country other than Russian citizens to cross the Georgian-Russian border and enter the neutral zone) and has met with the citizens mentioned in the publication,” the embassy clarified.
