Driver's Licenses Issued Without Exams in the US
The Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, has decided to simplify the process of obtaining a driver's license due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to Fox News, the governor has signed an order allowing drivers to obtain their licenses in the coming weeks without having to take an exam.
To acquire a license, passing an online test on traffic rules will be sufficient, as reported by Motor. However, this easing of restrictions does not apply to future motorcyclists and commercial vehicle drivers, who will need to wait until the end of quarantine and pass the usual road test.
After passing the test, prospective teenage drivers must also present a written certificate from parents, guardians, or driving instructors confirming that they have completed the mandatory 40-hour practice under the supervision of an experienced driver. A minimum of one year and one day of driving experience is also required.
As a result, a person may receive a provisional license instead of a full one, which will come with several restrictions. For example, they will be prohibited from driving between midnight and 6 AM, and there must be a fully licensed adult driver in the vehicle.
