Alcohol Consumption Rates Increase in Armenia
According to an analysis conducted by the World Health Organization and published in 2019, alcohol consumption rates in Armenia are gradually rising. Since 2010, the rate of alcohol use among men has increased more than twofold, with half of them misusing alcohol. There is also a trend of increased alcohol consumption among youth.
Data from the national health behavior survey of school-aged children conducted in 2013-2014 indicates that 7% of boys and 2% of girls under the age of 11 consume alcoholic beverages at least once a week. In 2016, among men, 69% of deaths from all liver diseases were due to cirrhosis, with 4.8% attributed to alcoholic cirrhosis. The number of traffic accidents caused by alcohol consumption is also concerning.
