Is There an Airline Operating Flights to Europe? A Question for Revazyan
Is there an airline operating unrestricted flights to Europe? This question was directed today to Tatevik Revazyan, the head of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia. Alongside this, an inquiry was made regarding the duration of the temporary suspension of licenses for various airlines.
Revazyan indicated that the licenses of airlines have been temporarily suspended, and these licenses can be reinstated when the committee is prepared to fulfill its oversight functions, although no specific timeline could be provided.
“There are several issues that present obstacles to resolving these problems. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic prevents discussions and collaborations with both foreign and domestic experts, and while certain measures are being taken, I cannot speak definitively about timelines,” she stated.
Regarding airlines that could potentially operate flights to Europe, Revazyan mentioned that there are currently none, as only two airlines had registered in Armenia and applied for the necessary permits, but their operations have effectively ceased.
The Deputy Head of the Civil Aviation Committee, Galust Poghosyan, informed that there are specific permits that airlines can obtain for humanitarian, medical, and evacuation purposes, allowing them to operate flights to Europe. He further clarified that this applies specifically to EU member states, not other countries.
