330 Million Rolls of Toilet Paper Sold in 5 Days: Toilet Paper Sales Surge in the U.S.
In the United States, residents purchased over 330 million rolls of toilet paper from Walmart stores in just the last week, which equates to one roll available for every citizen in the country, said Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, in an interview with American television program Today.
“In the last five days, we sold enough toilet paper that we could provide one roll for every American; and that’s only in the last five days,” McMillon noted.
The CEO urged Americans not to buy products in bulk, as this leads to shortages in stores. Instead, he recommended that shoppers go regularly, for instance, once a week.
He also pointed out that the supply of products, including disinfectants, in supermarkets is ongoing.
As per the latest information, the U.S. continues to lead the list of countries with the highest number of COVID-19 cases. More than 500,000 cases of the new type of coronavirus have been registered in the country, with 18,761 resulting in death.
