Criminal Case Initiated Following Soldier's Death

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has released a statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of a conscript soldier due to a gunshot wound, which occurred today.

“On April 3, 2020, around 00:35, a criminal case has been initiated in the second garrison investigative division regarding the incident in which conscript private Garegin Kamoi Babakehyan received a fatal gunshot wound in the neck while on duty at the combat position of military unit N. The case has been classified under Article 360.1, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which pertains to the involuntary manslaughter of a soldier during combat duty or service,” the Committee noted.

An investigation is currently underway to ensure a multifaceted, thorough, and objective examination of the case, with necessary investigative and procedural actions being undertaken.
