Your Proposed Bill is Not a Proportionate Solution: Gorisyan on the Project to Monitor Calls

Today, the National Assembly is discussing for the second time a government bill that would allow the government to monitor people's phone conversations under emergency conditions, without revealing their content. This does not satisfy opposition lawmakers.

During the parliamentary session, LHK deputy Gevorg Gorisyan expressed that this bill is not a proportionate solution to the existing problem. According to him, it is also delayed, as there are already more than 400 infected individuals, and the government will not be able to track the phone calls of all individuals who have come into contact with them.

Moreover, Gorisyan noted that this legislation creates another issue: with such laws in place, the government could also turn to Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp, and other social networks to obtain user conversation data.
