National Assembly Votes in Favor of Call Tracking Bill in Third Extraordinary Session

During the third extraordinary session of the National Assembly, where the agenda included amendments to the Law on the Legal Regime of Emergency, the lawmakers voted in favor of the bill with 71 votes in favor, 0 against, and abstentions.

According to the bill, during a state of emergency, mobile network operators are obliged to provide authorities with the necessary data to determine the location of services used by customers, as well as the phone numbers that have a direct or indirect (mediated) connection with the customer's phone number. This includes data to determine the date, start, and end of the phone conversations, as well as information regarding the phone number to which calls are redirected or forwarded.

It is worth noting that yesterday the National Assembly had accepted the bill in its first reading, but today, in the second reading, it was not accepted because the opposition parties, led by Edmon Marukyan of the Bright Armenia faction, did not participate in the voting. The government convened another extraordinary session, during which the bill was again accepted in the first reading, but without representatives of the opposition, who did not appear in parliament.
