VIDEO: Will There Be Additional Classes in Schools After the State of Emergency? Minister of Education Clarifies
“It depends on each of us whether we will have additional classes or not, and if we do, how many there will be,” said Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan during a live Facebook session today, March 25, addressing teachers and responding to frequently asked questions regarding additional classes after the end of the state of emergency.
“We fully trust the teachers, and they should say whether they have completed the entire course planned for that period. If necessary, for example, to add an extra week, or to hold classes on Saturdays, or to increase the number of lessons in a day, we will discuss this together. I am confident that if there is a need for additional classes, it will be very minimal. If a teacher tells the principal that the entire period has been covered and they can assess through a written test whether the material has been integrated by the students, then we will fully trust you again,” said Harutyunyan.
The minister noted that teachers should also decide on assignments during this time: “No one knows the students better than the teachers. I would like to ask you, using your intuition as teachers and knowing the students, to try to moderate the materials you provide so that our students continue to enjoy remote learning with the same enthusiasm.”
