Zeitung: Coronavirus Could Cause Several Hundred Million Dollars in Damage to Georgia's Economy

The newspaper "Zeitung" reports that, according to preliminary assessments by the Georgian authorities, the spread of the coronavirus could result in damage to the national economy ranging from tens of millions to several hundred million dollars. This includes a reduction in tourism volumes as well as external trade volumes.

Specifically, Georgia imports 90-95% of the bitumen necessary for the construction and repair of roadways from Iran, with which trade has been halted, while imports from other suppliers are significantly more expensive.

In Armenia, such assessments appear to be absent, but the same issues are relevant for us as well, and these assessments are crucial as they can help calculate ways to compensate for these damages.
