French Authorities Plan to Declare Coronavirus Pandemic

French authorities are set to declare a pandemic regarding the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in the upcoming days. This announcement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron on March 6 during a visit to a nursing home in southeastern Paris.

“Currently, we are in what can be termed the second phase of the fight against the pandemic, implementing measures aimed at curbing the spread of the disease. In the coming days, we will enter the third phase, which will be characterized as a pandemic when the virus spreads widely across all regions, and when we will need to continue our efforts against the virus, particularly to protect the most vulnerable members of the population,” said Macron.

Macron explained that the elderly, especially those with preexisting health conditions, are suffering the most from the coronavirus.
