Pets Can Transmit New Coronavirus, WHO Says

The World Health Organization has announced that the new coronavirus can be transmitted from animals to humans, not only from bats but also from pets. Dogs, cats, and other pets may be potential transmitters.

Previously, it was understood that the infection initially spread to humans from bats in China. However, the WHO has now concluded that the virus has overcome the defensive mechanisms of other animals and they can also become carriers.

Currently, it is not even known which specific animals may transmit the virus. This means that, for now, all animals—both domestic and wild—are considered potentially dangerous.

To prevent the virus from spreading through meat or dairy products, the organization urges people not to consume raw or undercooked food.
