100 Victims of Downed Ukrainian Boeing Identified and Recovered
On January 8, the identities of 100 out of the 176 victims of a downed Ukrainian aircraft in Tehran have been confirmed. Their bodies have been recovered and identified, according to an Iranian ISNA agency report citing the chief prosecutor, Mohammad Shahrayi.
The official stated that the bodies of 30 of the deceased have already been handed over to their families. He noted that the identification process for all victims is expected to conclude by the end of the week.
It is worth mentioning that Iran has admitted that the Ukrainian plane was shot down due to a military error. Arrests have been made in connection with this incident. Recall that on the night of January 7-8, a Boeing 737-800 owned by a Ukrainian airline crashed just minutes after takeoff near Tehran's airport, resulting in the deaths of all 176 people on board, including passengers and crew. On the same night, Iran had launched missile strikes on an American military base located in Iraq.
