Women Arrested in Yerevan Demanded 1 Million Drams from Courier
Yesterday, January 11, two residents of Yerevan were identified and taken into custody by the police in the Nor-Nork administrative district. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the individuals are 26-year-old Tehmine Shahbazyan and 21-year-old Victoria Damburajyan.
They are suspected of extorting 1 million drams from 34-year-old Karen G. from November 2019 until January of this year. Shamshyan.com reports that they extorted the money from Karen G. by stating, "You need to pay this amount to prevent us from publishing information regarding your personal life."
Following their detention, a personal search of T. Shahbazyan revealed a portion of the money involved in the extortion.
According to the media, Karen G. works as a courier at one of the companies operating in Yerevan.
