We Decided to Remove Air Tax for New Routes: Revazyan on New Directions
“We have decided to remove the air tax for new routes, and this has actually had a very significant impact,” stated Tatevik Revazyan, the head of the Civil Aviation Committee, at a press conference today. She added that while there were 6-7 flights to Europe until now, following this change, there will be 16-17 flights.
“In 2020, we expect very serious inflows. This is also related to how much international media writes about Armenia. It would be great for us, as citizens of the Republic of Armenia, to be able to visit Europe with direct flights, at more convenient times and at cheaper prices.”
Revazyan expressed hope that this year, there will be a significant influx of tourists to Armenia, which would contribute to the development of the economy. Tomorrow, RyanAir is expected to carry out its first flight. Revazyan informed that there might be a slight issue due to a strike in Italy, which will result in a time change, but it has been assured that the flight will be carried out.
Regarding the announcement made by the Civil Aviation Committee advising to consider temporarily avoiding the airspace of Iraq and Iran at all altitudes, Revazyan stated that if there wasn’t any danger, such an announcement would not be made, and they are obliged to inform about any potential risks. The airline will decide the rest, as it is responsible for flight safety.
Revazyan also mentioned that they have received proposals from international organizations with which they collaborate closely.
