Prosecutor's Office Ready to Meet Again with Woman Planning Self-Immolation in Front of Government Building: G. Abrahamyan
The advisor to the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, Gor Abrahamyan, wrote on his Facebook page regarding the statements made by citizen Mayranush Yeranosyan, who announced intentions of self-immolation in front of the Government building:
“Today, considering the information provided by the Investigative Committee of Armenia about the citizen's announcements, I find it necessary to make a few additional observations:
First, the investigation into the criminal case being handled by the Investigative Department of Yerevan is ongoing, and necessary investigative and other procedural actions are being conducted to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident, with all possible hypotheses being examined.
Second, during the investigation, the victim Hakob Yeranosyan's mother, M. Yeranosyan, and his wife, T. Barsheghyan, have both simultaneously applied to be recognized as the legal successors of the victim. In accordance with the relevant procedural processes, the investigator has contacted M. Yeranosyan, who has informed that she is leaving the territory of the Republic of Armenia. It has been clarified through the SEKT system that she has exited the Republic. In such circumstances, considering that a request has also been made by the wife of the victim, a decision has been made to recognize her as the legal successor of the victim.
Third, later, Mrs. Yeranosyan has submitted similar requests to be recognized as the legal successor as well. As explained in the responses to those requests, as well as during the meeting at the Prosecutor General's Office, it was clarified that there are no objective grounds to revoke that decision. At the same time, it was explained that if the issue is related to being informed about the progress of the criminal case, she will be provided with the necessary information within permissible limits at any time upon her request. Furthermore, should she possess information pertinent to the case, she may apply to the prosecuting authority at any stage of the investigation to request to be summoned and questioned as a witness.
In other words, the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has not only responded appropriately to M. Yeranosyan's written requests but has also organized her reception at the Prosecutor General's Office to provide accessible and comprehensible clarifications regarding the ongoing investigation, as well as all the questions she raised. However, considering that she continues to raise questions, the Prosecutor's Office is prepared to arrange her reception with the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the criminal investigation, should she express that desire verbally or in writing.”
