Prosecutor's Office Receives Appeal from Serzh Sargsyan's Defense Attorney
The Prosecutor's Office has received an appeal from the defense attorney of Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, Amram Makinyan, against the Special Investigation Service's decision to initiate criminal proceedings against Sargsyan. This was reported by the Public Relations Department of the RA Prosecutor General's Office.
Makinyan informed the media that the appeal concerns the functional immunity of the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.
On December 4, the Special Investigation Service released a statement regarding the indictment against Serzh Sargsyan under part 1 of Article 38-179 of the RA Criminal Code. According to the pre-investigation body, while holding the presidential office, Serzh Sargsyan used his official position to organize the embezzlement of a particularly large amount of money, specifically 489,160,310 AMD, through wasteful methods by a group of officials in 2013.
The measure of restraint selected for the third president is to sign a commitment not to leave.
Serzh Sargsyan denies the charges against him.
