VIDEO: Child Who Lost Two Fingers Shares Details of Explosion
The spokesperson for the Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center, Gevorg Derdzyan, wrote on his Facebook page: "New Year's holidays can bring joy as well as misfortune to some families due to the use of explosive devices by children. Recently, another incident has occurred. A 10-year-old child purchased explosives and sustained injuries. After being transferred to Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center, the child underwent surgery; the first and second fingers of his right hand were amputated, while the doctors managed to save the other fingers.
“Unfortunately, parents, thinking they are protecting their child, hold long ‘fireworks’ themselves and call their child to hold the lower part. This results in the whole family getting harmed. These devices should never be held by hand, they should be placed in the ground first and then used,” noted Arthur Harutyunyan, a plastic surgeon at Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center.
The boy’s life is not in danger, and doctors assess his condition as moderate. He continues to receive the necessary medical assistance.
