Investigating the Death of Serviceman A. Ajamyan and Injury of D. Melikbekyan
On December 2, 2019, at approximately 06:50, a mandatory conscript serviceman, Arthur Ishkhanyan Ajamyan, sustained a fatal gunshot wound at the combat position of Military Unit N of the Artsakh Defense Army. At the same incident, another serviceman, David Harutyun Melikbekyan, was also injured by gunfire. Following these events, a criminal case was initiated in the third garrison investigative department under Article 34-104, Part 2, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, concerning the attempted murder of two or more individuals. The investigation is ongoing.
As part of the criminal case, several urgent and necessary investigative actions have been carried out, including an examination of the crime scene, external examination of the body, and the appointment of forensic medical examinations for the body and for D. Melikbekyan. Multiple servicemen have been questioned as witnesses, and the grandfather of the deceased A. Ajamyan, Khatif Ajamyan, has been recognized as a successor of the victim's rights and has been interrogated. Lawyers Hayarpi Sargsyan and Khachatur Stepanyan have been appointed as representatives of the victim's successor and have participated in the forensic medical examination of the body.
Video recordings from the combat position’s cameras have been collected, and requests have been submitted to the court for the extraction of A. Ajamyan's phone connections and the inspection of his mobile phone. A forensic examination has been appointed. The investigation into the criminal case continues.
