Two Residents Arrested in Hrazdan for Murder of Man

The investigation conducted by the Kotayk Regional Investigative Division of the RA Investigative Committee has uncovered a number of circumstances surrounding the murder of a 66-year-old man in Hrazdan. Two individuals have been arrested.

As previously reported, on November 26, 2019, in the entrance of one of the buildings in the Central neighborhood of Hrazdan, the perpetrator of the alleged crime attacked Levon Chuljyan, a resident of the same building, who was born in 1953, and inflicted multiple stab wounds using a sharp cutting and piercing weapon. The 66-year-old man succumbed to his injuries.

As a result of extensive investigative and other procedural actions carried out within the criminal case initiated regarding the incident in the Kotayk Regional Investigative Division, the circumstances under which the 66-year-old man received life-threatening injuries were established, along with the identities of the two alleged perpetrators, who are residents of Hrazdan born in 2000 and 2001.

According to the information obtained by the investigation, on November 26, 2019, around 8:30 AM, the 19-year-old and 18-year-old residents of Hrazdan attacked Levon Chuljyan in the entrance of a building in the Central neighborhood, intending to unlawfully deprive him of his life and steal someone else's property. One of them, the 19-year-old, attempted to strike Chuljyan with a stone from behind but missed, after which the other, the 18-year-old, stabbed the 66-year-old man with a knife.

Based on sufficient evidence, the 19-year-old resident of Hrazdan has been charged under Article 175, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 4 of the RA Criminal Code, while the 18-year-old has been charged under Article 104, Part 2, Clause 8 of the RA Criminal Code. A motion has been submitted to the court to select detention as a measure of restraint for the young men, which has been granted. The preliminary investigation continues.
