Russian Purchases Apartment from Armenian with 579 Registered Residents and Sues Them All
A man in the Zelenograd administrative district of Moscow has purchased a one-room apartment, in which approximately 600 citizens, both Russians and foreigners, were formally registered. This information was reported by lenta.ru.
The buyer became aware of the hundreds of people registered at the apartment only after signing a contract with the former owner, one Asaturyan. It turned out that Asaturyan had been fined 120,000 rubles in 2018 for illegally registering citizens.
The new owner was forced to evict these "uninvited guests" through legal means. He filed a lawsuit against each of the registered individuals, seeking to annul their rights to use the apartment and to remove their registrations from his residence. The plaintiff stated that these individuals were likely registered solely on paper and had no real rights to the apartment.
The Zelenograd District Court upheld the lawsuit, stripping all 579 registered individuals of their rights to the apartment. None of them appeared in court.
In October, it became clear that the registration process for migrants in Russia would be simplified. Specifically, foreigners who have purchased property in Russia would be allowed to register their relatives and fellow countrymen there. A draft law has already been submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
