«Zhamanak». Alen Simonyan Wants to Legally Ban the Sale of Cut Christmas Trees
«Zhamanak» newspaper reports that National Assembly Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan intends to legally prohibit the sale of cut Christmas trees and other conifers during the New Year period, allowing only the sale of trees with a root ball.
At first glance, this may seem like an environmental measure. However, the practice of growing Christmas trees, where 4-5 year-old trees are cut down and replaced with new ones, is widespread around the world. This is an agricultural sector similar to the cultivation of cabbage or tomatoes.
Globally, forests are also planted and harvested for timber and other purposes, and this is not considered anti-environmental; on the contrary, it is aimed at preserving natural forests. Therefore, we should not fall into extremes but rather emulate positive practices.
