Breaking: Charges Filed Against Deputy Head of Road Police, Who Has Been Arrested

The Special Investigation Service of Armenia has filed charges against Arthur Tonoyan, the deputy head of the Road Police Department of the Republic of Armenia, based on a sufficient combination of evidence gathered in a criminal case under investigation.

According to the Special Investigation Service, he was charged under Article 195, Part 2, Clause 3 and Article 308, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code. Tonoyan, by abusing his official powers, coordinated actions that restricted the competition among private companies capable of supplying license plates for vehicle registration to the police. He took targeted actions to obstruct one company's entry into the Armenian market, thereby ensuring a monopolistic position for another company in the market and facilitating the maintenance of discriminatory prices set by this company, causing significant damage to the legitimate interests of the state.

As of November 21, 2019, pre-trial detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint against Arthur Tonoyan. Due to the interests of the pre-trial investigation, the Special Investigation Service has refrained from disclosing other details at this stage of the investigation. The investigation continues.
