Extraordinary Elections Will Not Be Held in Georgia: Kakhaber Kaladze

In Tbilisi, protesters have camped overnight near the entrance of the Georgian Parliament, reports the InterPressNews news agency. The area around the parliament remained calm throughout the night, with the exception of a few minor incidents.

Numerous tents have been set up in the vicinity of the parliamentary building. It has been reported that protesters constructed barricades on Chitadze, Zubalashvili, and Chichinadze streets and near the entrances to the parliament.

Despite the protests, the Georgian authorities will not call for extraordinary elections, as stated by Kakhaber Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, according to РИА Новости.

“There is less than a year until the elections. The elections will be held under a mixed electoral system, according to the current constitution, in accordance with the established rules and timelines. We call on our opponents to prepare for the elections,” Kaladze said during a press briefing on Monday.

Kaladze characterized the actions of opposition members blocking the entrance to parliament as unconstructive. “If these actions continue, the authorities will take appropriate decisions,” Kaladze added.
