NA Approves Bill on Employment Opportunities for Foreign Convicts
The National Assembly of Armenia has approved in the second reading and in full a bill presented by the government, which proposes to give the opportunity to involve foreign detainees, convicts, as well as foreign probation beneficiaries, in various jobs without additional procedures.
The draft law amending the Law of the Republic of Armenia on Foreigners was unanimously accepted in the National Assembly during the second reading, receiving 120 votes in favor.
Currently, foreigners in Armenia can work if they have a work permit. At the same time, the law on foreigners provides for certain exceptions, under which a foreigner can work without a work permit.
However, these exceptions do not apply to foreign convicts or detainees, as well as foreign probation beneficiaries. The proposed bill aims to ensure parity of rights and facilitate their employment by allowing them to participate in various jobs without additional procedures.
